Old Man Winter is Sleeping.

Well, we're back on the move. The original plan was to ski Grand Targhee in Wyoming on Thursday, ski Sun Valley in Idaho on Friday and make our way to our buddy Levi Hicks house in Missoula, Montana. Unfortunately, there is a draught of snow across the entire western US. We decided to skip Targhee on Thursday and head straight to Sun Valley. When we got there we grabbed some lunch at this burger and fry place which claimed they were the best burgers and fries in town. We decided to give it a shot. It wasn't that good...After lunch we walked around town and checked out a couple of ski shops and got the word that there wasn't going to be any snow. We decidede to skip the $80 to ski on hard pack once again and start heading towards Montana and find some backcountry stuff along the way.
We pulled over to sleep in the car somewhere North of Salmon Idaho. When we woke up the next morning...the battery was dead. We got dressed and immediately afterwards a truck pulled up from the Idaho Fish and Game service. We went up to the guy and told him we had a dead battery and he said "oh im sorry i cant help you, I'm not allowed to help anyone." We were like...umm ok... but then he said "do you have jumper cables?" We said "yep" and he said "ok, I'm not supposed to but i will." Afterwards, I asked him if he saw us from the road and he said he hadn't. He just pulled off the road to check out things. (We pulled over into a fish and game area) Luckily, he had shown up otherwise we would have had to flag someone down and who knows how long that would have taken.
As we were driving we spotted a little ski hill right on the border of Idaho and Montana. It was called Lost Trail Powder Mountain. We pulled over to check things out and decided to pay the whopping $25 to ski there. It was a really cool little place and found some stashes of snow in the trees. Around 1pm we headed out for Levi's place. It was a good time at Levi's. We did some backcountry skiing today and we're heading out tomorrow morning at 6am for Whitefish Mountain. (Formerly known as Big Mountain...not to be confused with Big Sky.)
Well 6 will come early tomorrow so goodnight.....

until next time

  1. You gotta think of it as buying beer and getting a crappy burger for free.
